For years this building has been a personal favorite. Whenever I'd visit the Detroit riverfront, its massive size, striking color, and rawness would drawn me in. Clearly before me was the opportunity to restore this vacant structure into a useful space for the city and its people. And I always told myself that when I had the money, I'd buy it.
Well recently, I came across an article on Curbed Detroit announcing the Detroit Brownfield Redevelopment Authority and the Detroit Economic Growth Corporation were seeking (from qualified bidders) preliminary redevelopment proposals for this beauty, the old Stone Soap Building. I may not be the qualified bidder they are looking for but I'm thrilled nonetheless this building is getting some attention! My tribute on this #313Day is in honor of the rebirth this gem will experience, hopefully soon. Here's to new beginnings and bringing more life back into the city.
